Teenage pregnancy rate in Thailand is now higher than the WHO standard and continues to increase. Teenage mothers often face with mental health problems. Studies support that teenage mothers are at high risk of developing depression, which not only affects the mother but also the baby. The preterm delivery, low birth weight newborn, as well as slow mental, emotional and physical development of a child are serious consequences. This article presents a literature review on factors associated with depression in teenage pregnant mothers and offers guidelines to prevent the development of depression in teenage pregnancy.
