This participatory action research had two main objectives: 1) to study the state of health promotion targeting pre-school children; 2) to develop a health promotion model for preschoolers with the participation of the family and community. The research participants consisted of 31 pre-school children, 30 families of pre-school children, 17 core community leaders, 3 nurses in a health promoting hospital, and 2 childcare center staff. Data was collected from a focus group and in-depth interviews, and were analyzed using Colaizzi’ s method of data analysis. The major findings of the research are as follows. A health promotion program has not been fully implemented for preschool children due to poor collaboration of organizations which provide child care or insufficient funding and trained personnel. The health promotion model for pre-school children with the participation of family and community requires the collaboration of local organizations. The sub district administration must define a plan, provide a budget and develop the environment in the community appropriate for children. A health promoting hospital must promote good health awareness in preschool children by providing relevant knowledge to the family, empowering community health volunteers, and training childcare personnel. Childcare centers must organize health promotion activities for children in collaboration with families to develop health promoting behavior. Families learn to promote the health of children through understanding proper nutrition, play, and basic moral principles.Downloads
