Abstract

This article aimed to analyze the concept of masculinity by Walker and Avant’s concept analysis. According to the concept analysis of masculinity, the concept of masculinity can be summarized into four attributes as follows. 1) Physical attributes: they included being strong, having a good shape and being respectable personality. 2) Psychological attributes: they consisted of having a stable mood, not showing weakness or crying, success, competition, winner, power, dominance, leadership and autonomy. 3) Intellectual attributes: they included being logical and intelligent. 4)  Social attributes: they consisted of three important roles: family roles, work roles, and sex roles. Understanding the concept of masculinity allows nurses to understand and be able to apply the knowledge to develop the approaches to promote and prevent health risk behaviors, such as alcohol and substance abuse, sexual risk behavior, violent behavior
