Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effect of a volunteer nurse participation program in promoting implementation of nursing practice guidelines on nursing practices for preventing central venous catheter infection. The nursing practices to prevent central venous catheter infections was used to examine the difference between control and experimental groups. The results showed that the nurses of the experimental group were able to prevent central venous catheter infections at a significantly higher rate than those of the control group (p < .05).The findings of this study indicate that volunteer nursesparticipation program could be used for promoting implementation of nursing practice guidelines in order to increase the quality of nursing practices.
