Abstract

To promote people to reduce tobacco use and stop smoking is one of many countries’ tobacco control strategies. In addition, monitoring tobacco use and prevention policy is also a key strategy which needs standard measures to collect reliable data which will promote appropriate and adjustable interventions. This article aims to present smoking cessation outcome measures that may reflect the efficiency of smoking cessation services. Abstinence from smoking at least six months after the start of the intervention is the important outcome indicator. The outcomes can be assessed through self-reported questionnaire and biomarkers such as exhaled carbon monoxide and cotinine level. As there is a paucity of nursing research regarding outcome in smoking cessation, additional knowledge in this area would promote clinical and research practice of nurses in order to enhance smoking cessation services in Thailand.
