Abstract

Suffi  cient intravenous fl  uid intake during the 1st stage of labor is important as dehydration can cause a decrease inblood fl  ow to the uterus and even contraction, which may lead to prolonged labor, obstetric operation, and cesareansection. This study aimed to develop the clinical nursing practice guideline (CNPG) for intravenous fl  uid (IVF)administration during the 1st stage of labor based on Donabedian’s system theory and participatory developmentprocess. Mason’s criterion for standards of care was applied to check for the guideline validity. Subjects included7 labor nurses and 21 women at  ≥ 37 weeks gestation. Data collection was done during March to April 2012.The results suggested that CNPG for IVF administration during the 1st stage of labor should consist of 5 steps.ThisCNPG IVF had 99.74% of effi  ciency for practice.
