Abstract

This quasi–experimental research aimed to study the effects of the preparatory program on pain. The samples were older men who underwent cystoscopy in Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University. The subjects were sampling based on the inclusion criteria. The samples were separated into the experimental group and the control group: 15 persons each. The experimental group received a 3-stage preparatory program, including 1) on the appointment date,
2) on the day of undergoing cystoscopy and 3) post cystoscopy. The control group received conventional nursing care. The research instruments consisted of: personal information record and the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Independent t-test and Mann-Whitney U.

The results revealed that the older adults who received the preparatory program had less pain score than those who received routine nursing care with statistical significance including peri-cystoscopy (p <0.001) and post-cystoscopy (p <0.001).
