Relationship between sleeping, internet use, phone use time and problem behaviors among school-age children

The study aimed to examine the relationship between sleeping, internet use, phone use time and problem behaviors among school-age children. Data was purposively collected among 4-6 graders (N=142) in Bangkok Metropolitan. Instruments consisted of demographic data, strength and difficulties questionnaire or SDQ, and time using in sleeping, internet, and telephone questionnaires. The findings revealed that most subjects did not have behavioral problems, whereas 7.4 % is in the risk group, and 4.8 % is in the abnormal group. It was found that those in the risk and abnormal groups had less sleeping time comparing to the normal group (p<.01). The risk and abnormal groups had higher internet using time comparing to the normal group (p<.01). Lastly, those in the risk and abnormal groups had higher telephone using time comparing to the normal group (F=25.635, p<.001). The researchers recommend parenting roles promotion on child’s time-using discipline and develop supportive system for preventing and solving problems occur among school-aged children.
