หลักสูตรและการเรียนการสอนทางการพยาบาลบรรจุการสะท้อนคิดไว้ในการปฏิบัติการพยาบาลไว้เพราะเป็นสิ่งจำเป็นช่วยให้ผู้เรียนมีวิจารณญาณก่อนลงมือปฏิบัติการพยาบาลกับผู้รับบริการ การพัฒนาความสามารถในการสะท้อนคิดช่วยให้นักศึกษาพยาบาลเกิดความเข้าใจในวัตถุประสงค์ วิธีการปฏิบัติ และกระบวนการพยาบาลที่ต้องปฏิบัติ ผลการวิจัยแสดงให้เห็นว่าการสะท้อนคิดในการปฏิบัติการพยาบาลนี้เป็นสิ่งสำคัญในการจัดการเรียนการสอนทางการศึกษาพยาบาลเพราะเป็นกลยุทธ์ที่ช่วยส่งเสริมให้ผู้เรียนประสบความสำเร็จในการคิดอย่างมีวิจารณญาณได้
