Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effects of a nursing program based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) combined with SKT-1 on blood glucose control behaviors, blood glucose levels, and stress among pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). A total of 50 eligible participants were recruited using purposive sampling. The research instruments included: (1) a nursing program based on the Theory of Planned Behavior combined with SKT-1 meditation therapy, (2) an attitude assessment questionnaire regarding gestational diabetes mellitus, (3) a blood glucose control behavior questionnaire, and (4) the Stress Test Questionnaire (SPST - 20). The content validity indices of the instruments ranged from .92 to .93, and the reliability coefficients ranged from .73 to .83. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and t-tests

The research findings revealed that after the intervention, the experimental group had significantly higher scores in blood glucose control behaviors than the control group (t = 5.76, p-value < .001). The mean 2-hour postprandial blood glucose level and mean stress score in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group (t = 2.07, p-value < .05 and t = 2.77, p-value < .01, respectively). Thus, the program was effective in helping pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus achieve better glycemic control and reduce stress levels. The program can be applied as an intervention to promote appropriate self-care behaviors among pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus.
