การวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพปรากฏการณ์วิทยานี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อบรรยายประสบการณ์ของพยาบาลที่ปฏิบัติงานในหน่วยสารสนเทศทางการพยาบาล โรงพยาบาลตติยภูมิ ใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพแบบปรากฏการณ์วิทยาตีความของ ไฮเด็กเกอร์ (Heidegger) ผู้ให้ข้อมูล คือ พยาบาลที่ปฏิบัติงานในหน่วยงานสารสนเทศทางการพยาบาล อย่างน้อย 3 ปี และมีความยินดีเข้าร่วมการวิจัย คัดเลือกผู้ให้ข้อมูลแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง จำนวน 12 ราย เก็บข้อมูลด้วยการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกแบบกึ่งโครงสร้าง ร่วมกับการบันทึกเทป และการบันทึกภาคสนาม นำข้อมูลที่ได้มาถอดเทปแบบคำต่อคำ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลตามแนวทางการตีความ และการจมดิ่งอยู่กับข้อมูลของ Crist และ Tanner และนำเสนอในรูปแบบแก่นสาระสำคัญ
ผลการวิจัย พบว่า ประสบการณ์การเป็นพยาบาลที่ปฏิบัติงานในหน่วยสารสนเทศทางการพยาบาล แบ่งเป็น 3 ประเด็นหลัก ได้แก่ 1) บทบาทใหม่ และการขยายขอบเขตงานพยาบาล 2) การมีส่วนร่วมในการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีเพื่อการพยาบาล และ 3) อุปสรรค และความท้าทายในการปฏิบัติงาน การวิจัยนี้ทำให้ทราบถึงการเป็นพยาบาลที่ปฏิบัติงานในหน่วยสารสนเทศทางการพยาบาลที่ต้องอาศัยความรู้ทางด้านเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศ และด้านการพยาบาล เพื่อสร้าง และพัฒนาโปรแกรมที่มีประโยชน์ต่อบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ และผู้ป่วย
