Abstract

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most important risk factors of ischemic stroke and also usually found in the elderly. Prevalence of AF was 22% in Thai patients with ischemic stroke. Recent studies show the benefit of prolonged electrocardiography monitoring as atrial fibrillation more frequently detected. Prolonged rhythm monitoring (30- day) is recommended by American Stroke Association in stroke patients with unidentified cause. Studies showed that new oral anticoagulants can protect thromboembolic events with less major bleeding complications as compared to warfarin in patients with high-risk AF.
