Diagnostic Performance of Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB) among Thyroid Gland Neoplasms in Mae Sod General Hospital
Keywords:
thyroid, tumor, fine needle aspiration biopsy, predictive abilityAbstract
Objective: To study the efficacy of fine needle aspiration to diagnose thyroid tumor in Mae Sod hospital.
Method: The study was prospective cohort. The subjects were the patients whohave thyroid tumor underwent FNAB between 1 July 2014 and 31 July 2015.
Result: The malignancy patients have 41.4 (±13.6) years of mean age and history ofwithin 6 months tumor onset. On the other hand, the history of tumor onset of the non-malignancy tumor mean age was 48.6 (±11.2) years was more than 6 monthssignificantly. Sex and preoperative size of tumor did not impact the diagnosis. The non-malignancy FNAB patients have 0.55 of likelihood ratio of malignancy. Themalignancy FNAB patients have 22.59 of likelihood ratio of malignancy. Only FNABresult has good test prefer (71.5%), if the history of rapid onset and age wereincluded, the test prefer increased to 74.95% and 85.1% respectively.
Conclusion: The thyroid malignancy was commonly found in less than 45 years old patients and less than 6 months of tumor onset. FNAB for thyroid tumor diagnosis has high efficacy in Mae Sod hospital, especially if age and onset of tumor were considered.
