A guideline of district health system development for diabetic holistic care with action research in Thapthan district, Uthai Thani province

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative research was to lesson learned a guideline of District Health System (DHS.) development for diabetic holistic care in Thapthan district, Uthai Thani province. The key informants were 30 of district health teams in Thapthan district by purposive sampling. Semi-structured interview, participant observation and lesson learned were used for collecting data. The qualitative data analysis was content analysis.

The research found that the guideline forDHSdevelopment for diabetic holistic care has three compositions which were 1) the set of fundamental factors which were teams of district health system and management, information system development, and the capacity building of the district health teams. 2) The process of district health system development that wasimplicated with the action research spiral for knowledge management through 4 stepswhich were:planning, doing, observation, and reflection and 3) the results of the DHS development were 2 parts; (1) elderly diabetics could control blood sugar level shigher than before participated in the project, and (2) the district health system teams were also satisfied, they could help each other setting unity goal and team, sharing more  information and resources, and solve the problems by the action research that all sectors could work more efficiently. Therefore, recommend to the agency that responsibleto policies to DHS development, such as Provincial Public Health Office and Regional Health should be support to knowledge and technology relating to fundamental factors for DHS development and strengthen potential for action research process. Moreover, should be developing to the monitoring and evaluation system to cover both outcomes to people who are the target group and process of DHS development.
