Evaluation of hand foot and Mouth disease and enterotoxin viral infections surveillance system, KhonKaen province, 2012

This study aimed toinvestigate the quantitative attribute of surveillance system of hand foot mouth disease and Enterotoxin viral infections.Purposive sampling technique was used to conduct in 6 districts including MuangKhonkaen district, Chumphae district,Manchakhiridistrict,Namphong district, Pholdistric and Kranuan district. Data collections wereretrieved from patient’s medical recordsregarding inpatient departmentandand outpatient departmentdatabase between 1st January 2012and 31st December, 2012.Subjects had compatible symptoms with the definition of suspected hand foot mouth disease orHerpangina or Enterotoxin viral infections of The Bureau of Epidemiology, Department of Disease Control.Thedescriptive statistics was analysed,and presented sensitivity, positive predictive value, Timeliness, Representative of data, accuracy of data. Results wasdescribed by frequency, percentage, ratio, median and IQR.
This study identifies that from 802 reviewed medical records, 388 patients were 506 case reported in the surveillance report system. A375 patient were reported as suspected casescompetible with the definition and a 13 patients were not suspected cases. According to the classification of disease, a 471 cases were classified as Hand Foot Mouth disease, a 156 cases were Herpangina and a 175 cases were Aphthous ulcer. Sensitivity of all hospitals was at 60.59% and
Positive predictive value was at 96.88%. The representative of cases was described according tosex and age reported in the 506 survelliance report programe and reviewed medical record. Ratio of male campared with female was calculated at 0.74:1 from the 506 surveillance report programand at 1.33:1 from reviewed medical record. Median of age was equal as IQR of age (Median=IQR=2). Timeliness of reported was presented in the various period as0-3 days, 3-7 days andmore than 7day comprisely as90.46%, 5.67% and 6.96% respectively. Accuracy of data recording in surveillance system of hospital was presented by sex, age, overall of province and onset of diseasecomprisely at 97.68%, 98.20%, and 99.74% and 67.27%, respectively.
