Model of Leptospirosis Surveillance Scheme by the Sub-District SRRT Team, Kumpe Sub District, Borabue District, Mahasarakarm Province

Leptospirosis is an infection caused by Bacteria which are transmitted by variety of animals. The severity of symptom varies on pathogen breed and infectious dose. Symptom can range from none, mild, and severe to death. This research aimed to investigate the context and problem in the area, model of Leptospirosis surveillance scheme by Sub-District SRRT team, behavior of networks on disease surveillance, and factors related to the operational achievement on disease surveillance. Samples were 50 persons who were community leaders, public health volunteers, members of Kumpe Sub-District Administrative Organization, and family health leaders. The research tools for data collection consisted of a testing form, a questionnaire, a measurement form, and an operation record form The quantitative data was analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Paired sample t-test was used to compare the mean difference between pre-and post-intervention.Observation, group interview, and focus group discussion were used for qualitative data collection. Content analysis was used to analyze qualitative data.
Research result found that model of Leptospirosis surveillance scheme by Sub-District SRRT team in Kumpe Sub-District, Borabue District, Mahasarakarm Province consisted of 15 steps. The pattern resulted in the team could generate the Leptospirosis surveillance guidelines in the area. Comparing between pre and post scores of Leptospirosis knowledge, practice in the Leptospirosis surveillance, and community participation in the Leptospirosis surveillance found that knowledge, practice, and community participation in the Leptospirosis surveillance scheme were significantly statistical increased ( p< 0.001). Level of satisfaction in the Leptospirosis surveillance scheme was high. Factors related to operational achievement was “PRASERT”, and “KUMPE MODEL” was generated as the operational model.
In conclusion, model of Leptospirosis surveillance scheme by the Sub-DistrictSRRT team was the cooperation between stakeholders in sharing and learning knowledge together based on contexts and capitals of the area. Area contexts and capitals were applied as the supporting elements, which were finally led to the generating of the effective surveillance model.
