Effect of empowerment program of caregiver caring for the elderly at risk of high blood pressure in Kaengdinso Sub-District, Nadee District, Prachinburi Province.

Abstract

This quasi experimental research was studied the effects of the empowerment caregivers to care for the elderly who had a high risk blood pressure. The samples were the elder who had a high risk blood pressure and caregiver; by divided into 2 groups of 30 pairs for the control group and 30 pairs for having distributed by elder care manuals to prevent hypertension and Join application of the concept of empowerment Gibson's four steps. The activity details as the following : the first to discovering realty (knows themself), the second critical reflection (knows review), the third take charge (knows editor) and the fourth holding on the behavior. (I do, and continuous). Data were collected before and after the program for two weeks, analyze data with statistics; Frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation Paired t-test and Independent t-test. The results showed caregiver group had the average score of self-esteem perception, self-empowerment perception, and elder care behavior after the experiment was higher than before experiment and control group after the experiment with statistical significance (p <0.05). In high-risk group; the experiment group had the average score of  health behavior was higher than before experiment and control group after the experiment with statistical significance (p <0.05) , have lower blood pressure than before and lower than the control group. In the process of critical reflection and take charge making solution helps create a good relationship between the caregiver and the elderly from sharing ideas together to find practical, reasonable self. Which  show that empowerment program of caregiver caring for the elderly at risk of high blood pressure is appropriate and  care be used to prevent  hypertension in population at risk.
