Investigation on injuries and deaths related to road traffic crash between a excursion bus and SUV car on the highway No. 1318 (Srisamrong-Srinakhon), Pak Nam Subdistrict, Sawankhalok District , Sukhothai Province

Abstract

On March 17, 2023 Office of Disease Prevention and Control Region 2 Phitsanulok Province (ODPC2) received the reports of the accident about road traffic crashed between a excursion bus and SUV car on the highway No. 1318 (Srisamrong-Srinakhon), Pak Nam Subdistrict, Sawankhalok District ,Sukhothai Province. Investigation team from ODPC2 associated with Sukhothai Provinicial Health Office and agencies in the area join to investigate on March 22-23, 2023 to find out the prevention of accidents. By collecting medical documents , surveying the location and vehicles at the point of the accident. Interview victims and rescuers Analysis of factors which is cause of injuries according to Haddon's Matrix Model. Results of the investigation found 2 deaths consist with bus service employee 1 person and passenger 1 person, the injuried 42 person consist with passengers 41 person and SUV driver 1 person. The injured person were between 14-64 years old, and most had injuried to their legs and arms due to shock with equipment inside the vehicle. It is believed that the cause of this accident caused by visibility. It was happened on the night. There were no lights, opaque black film, and the road was under construction. There are no traffic lane lines. There is no road shoulder line. There are no warning signs or traffic signs. Along the road shoulder is a drainage ditch with a steep depth. An errors of the bus driver in car swerving to crash down  side of the road.
