The Effect of Training Programs on Knowledge, Confidence and Ability to Use COVID-19 Self-Antigen Test Kit in Village Health Volunteers Sawankalok District, Sukothai Province

Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effect of training program on knowledge, confidence, and ability for village health volunteers in Sawankalok district, Sukothai province to use COVID – 19 self-antigen test kit from 1 June – 31 August 2022. The total of 47 village health volunteers were enrolled in this study and divided into two groups by simple random sampling method (23 participants in video training program and 24 in simulation practice program. The data collection tools for pre- and post- trainings included questionnaire, knowledge test, confidence rating scale, and observational standard checklist. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics using Fisher’s Exact Test and T – Test. The results of study showed no difference in scores of knowledge, confidence and practice after training between two group. However, knowledge scores and confidence rating scale after trainings were significantly increased among both groups. Knowledge scores and confidence rating scale among video training group showed the T value of -5.52- (< 0.01) and -2.26- (0.03), respectively. Knowledge scores and confidence rating scale showed T value of -5.02- (< 0.01) and -2.14- (0.04), respectively.  In conclusion, both simulation and video training helped the village health volunteers to increase knowledge, confidence to follow the steps on using self ATK correctly.
