Incidence, Severity, and Risk Factors of Oral Mucositis in Adult and Elderly Cancer Patients after Receive Chemotherapy in Uttaradit Hospital

Abstract
Objectives: This study is a prospective cohort study investigated incidence and severity in adult and elderly cancer patient who have received chemotherapy in Uttaradit Hospital.
Materials and Methods: A sample from 61 patients with ongoing cancer treatment. Tree cycles of treatment had been followed or until the mucositis had developed. Data select from demographic questionnaire, MNA and sample were examined by World Health Organization (WHO 1979) mucositis scale. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics chi-square tests and Kruskal-Wallis test.
Results: Incidence rate of oral mucositis was 90.16% among our samples. The most common in severity grade 1 43(70.5%), buccal mucosa 37(67.27%). Common characteristics included female, Gastrointestinal cancers, patient that prone to malnutrition and patient with cardiovascular disease.
Conclusions: incidence and severity of elderly more than adult. So, should be oral examination, closely monitored and follow up. Geriatric Dentistry should become into the oncological working group to focus on preventing and managing oral mucositis.
