Stress coping program in senior high school students of Pramandanijjanukhroah School

Abstract

Background: Teenage is an importance period in life that contains challenges, difficulties and crises. As teenagers have to explore themselves, try new things, and should the way for their future without skills. One of the therapies as occupational therapy has proved that there are quite a few activities to better their lives. These are the main reasons that interested researchers to make a pattern of activity for teenage that can be functional and have a same standard. The researcher chose this school as they consider this topic in combination with their students from many types of characters.

Objective: To study the effects of stress coping program to stress level and coping strategy in senior high school students of Pramandanijjanukhroah School.

Methods: Data were collected from 54 students with mild to moderate stress levels as scanned by stress self-checklist and coping strategy assessment. Knowledge training were on 3 topics of coping: time management skill, problem solving technique and imagination relaxation. They joined one-and-a-half hour session, once a week for 6 weeks. The control group were required to read 6 volumes of wellness magazines in parallel to the experimental group.

Results: After the treatment, post-test level of stress in the experimental group was significantly different (P = 0.01), the mean difference and coping strategy assessment score was improved social support type and decreased avoidance type but without statistical significance. The control group showed no statistical significance of stress between pre-test and post-test levels and any type of coping strategy assessment scores.

Conclusion: Stress coping program improves post-test stress scores that show no good result in the comparison of the mean difference, but it can drive many teenagers get some trick to improve there coping skill and live happier.
