Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) causes physical, mental, social, and economic impacts and affects the health behavior of COPD patients. This descriptive research aimed to examine factors associated with self-care behaviors among COPD patients in the 50th Anniversary Hospital, Maha Vajiralongkorn, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The sample was 150 patients attending COPD clinic. The research instruments included personal data form, health perception questionnaires, and self-care behaviors questionnaires. The reliability of the first and second questionnaires tested by Cronbach's alpha coefficient was .90 and .95, respectively. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson, Spearman, and point biserial correlation. The study showed that the self-care behaviors among patients with COPD were overall at a good level ( =2.54, SD=0.53). Additionally, the education level (r=0.167, p<.001), the duration diagnosis COPD) (r=0.108, p<.05), body mass index (r=0.258, p<.001), and health perception of benefits (r=0.165, p<.001) were related to self-care behaviors. The results of this study could be used as information to enhance self-care behaviors among patients with COPD in pulmonary clinics.
