A Study of the Desirable Characteristics of Nursing Graduates from the Bachelor of Nursing Science Program 2027, according to The Stakeholder Needs at Southeast Asia University

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the desirable characteristics of nurse graduates for the Bachelor of Nursing Science program 2027 according to the stakeholder needs at Southeast Asia University using the Delphi technique. The samples were 22 experts who were stakeholders of Southeast Asia University nurse graduates recruited by purposive sampling method. The research instruments were demographic data questionnaires, and three rounds of questionnaires provided two sections: open-ended and a 5-point rating scale. The data were analyzed using median and interquartile range.
The study found that the desirable characteristics of the Bachelor of Nursing Science program 2027 according to the stakeholder needs. The desirable characteristics consisted of twelve characteristics. They were: 1) Nursing and midwifery knowledge on the basic of professional ethic skills; 2) Integrated the general knowledge in nursing practice and midwifery skills; 3) Collaborating with interdisciplinary team skills ; 4) Management skills; 5) Decision making and problem solving skills; 6) Critical and creative thinking skills; 7) Research or joining together and innovation developmental skills; 8) Communicate in Thai for nursing practice and midwifery skills; 9) Communicate in English for nursing practice and midwifery skills; 10) Good interpersonal relationship with collaborative and clients including personal family and social skills; 11) Digital and information technology skills; and 12) Good citizenship.
The results of this study can be used as basic information to develop nursing science programs in order to improve the nursing science programs as identified by stakeholder needs.
