Abstract

This quasi-experimental research, employing a two-group pretest-posttest and 1-month follow-up design, aimed to test the effect of The e e-cigarette hedlth literacy enhancement program on adolescents’ intention to not smoke e-cigarettes. The sample consisted of 60 qualified high school students who were randomly assigned by simple random sampling to an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). The experimental group participated in the health literacy enhancement program, while the control group received routine care. The research instruments included the e-cigarettes health literacy enhancement program (content validity index = 1.00) and the questionnaire on the intention to not smoke e-cigarettes (reliability coefficient = 0.94). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Bonferroni’s multiple comparison test. The results revealed that the experimental group’s mean scores for the intention to not smoke e-cigarettes at post-test and at the 1-month follow-up were significantly higher than those of the control group (p<.001). Furthermore, within the experimental group, the intention not to smoke e-cigarettes differed significantly across the different measurement phases (p<.001). The research findings suggest that school administrators should use the results to establish a policy to enhance e-cigarette health literacy among students in the school, particularly those in upper secondary school, to help increase their intention not to smoke e-cigarettes.
