Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to examine the effectiveness of a health literacy promotion program on health literacy and rabies prevention behaviors. The sample consisted of village health volunteers and community leaders selected through purposive sampling. Participants were divided into an experimental group (35 people) and a comparison group (35 people). Data were collected before and after the intervention using a questionnaire that had been validated with a content validity index of 1 and a reliability coefficient of 0.89. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and differences in mean scores were compared using the t-test. The results showed that after participating in the program, the experimental group had significantly higher mean scores of health literacy and rabies prevention behaviors than before the intervention and also significantly higher than the comparison group (p-value < .05). The findings support that the health literacy promotion program was effective in enhancing health literacy and promoting rabies prevention behaviors among village health volunteers and community leaders. Therefore, the program should be expanded to other areas to support the achievement of the goal of eliminating rabies from Thailand.
