Abstract

Tertiary hyperparathyroidism after total parathyroidectomy is a significant complication in patients with (end-stage chronic kidney disease). Nursing care plans should be developed to ensure patient safety and reduce postoperative complications.
This patient’s blood parathyroid levels were 3424.6, 1813.4, and 2029.9 pg/ml, respectively. After surgery (30 minutes), the blood parathyroid level was 88.5 pg/mL. On the 2nd, 8th, and 14th days after surgery, the blood results were 25.3, 3.0, and 5.5 pg/ml, respectively. The patient was hospitalized for a total of 5 days after surgery without any postoperative complications and was discharged by the doctor.
Case studies of tertiary hyperparathyroidism undergoing parathyroidectomy are still uncommon at Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodin Hospital. Nurses’ knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiology of tertiary hyperparathyroidism caused by chronic kidney disease will be of utmost benefit in ensuring patient safety.
