Predicting Factors on Incontinence Associated Dermatitis in Hospitalized Older Persons
Keywords:
Incontinence Associated-Dermatitis, hospitalized older personsAbstract
This predictive correlational study aimed to examine the prevalence and predictive factors of incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) among hospitalized older persons. The sample consisted of 190 participants. Research instruments included: 1) The researcher-developed data recording form for factors associated with IAD in older persons had a content validity index of 0.87, 2) Barthel ADL Index, 3) Nutrition Alert Form, 4) Perineal Assessment Tool, and 5) Prevalence record using Incontinence Associated Dermatitis Intervention Tool. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and binary logistic regression.
The results showed that the prevalence of IAD among hospitalized older persons was 5.3%. Statistically significant predictive factors for IAD were frequency of absorbent pad changes, oxygen therapy, sensory perception, physical mobility, capacity in daily living and nutritional status. The findings can be applied to the development of prevention and care guidelines for hospitalized older persons at risk of IAD.
