This quasi-experimental study, two groups pretest-posttest design aimed to compare the effects of childbirth self-efficacy promoting program on fear of childbirth and perceived childbirth self-efficacy among primiparous women of advanced maternal age. Sample consisted of 55 primiparous women of advanced maternal age receiving antenatal care at Krathum Baen Hospital, Samut Sakhon Province. They were divided into an experimental group (n = 27) and a control group (n = 28). The experimental group received the childbirth self-efficacy promoting program and routine nursing care. The control group received routine nursing care only. Research instruments included the childbirth self-efficacy promoting program, a personal and obstetric data recording form, a fear of childbirth questionnaire, and a perceived childbirth self-efficacy inventory. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, and t-test. The results showed that the experimental group had significantly lower mean fear of childbirth scores compared to before the intervention and significantly lower scores than the control group (p<.05). The experimental group also had significantly higher mean childbirth self-efficacy scores compared to before the intervention and significantly higher scores than the control group (p < .001). These findings confirmed that this program could reduce fear of childbirth and increase childbirth self-efficacy. Therefore, hospitals should be used this program to care women of advanced maternal age.
