Keywords:
hypertension prevention program, hypertension, hypertension risk groupAbstract
This study was experimental research aimed at studying the effectiveness of a hypertension prevention program on hypertension prevention behaviors among a hypertension risk group in Si Songkhram District, Nakhon Phanom Province. The sample was selected by systematic random sampling and divided into an experimental group of 30 people who received the program created by the researcher for a period of 8 weeks, and 30 people in a comparison group who received routine health care services only. Pre-post test data were collected before and after the experiment by using questionnaires. The data obtained were analyzed with descriptive statistics, frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The differences in pre-post test scores were compared within the experimental group by using paired t-test and the differences in mean scores were compared between the experimental and comparison groups by using independent t-test
Post-test, the experimental group had high perceived severity of hypertension, Perceived risk of hypertension, Expectations of outcomes and self-efficacy in hypertension prevention with higher mean hypertension prevention behavior scores than at pre-test and higher than the same scores in the control group with statistical significance. Were significantly higher than before the trial and statistically significantly higher than in the comparison group (p=0.001). The hypertension prevention program should be applied to the preventive behavior in hypertension risk groups with continuous follow-up on control of blood pressure levels. Furthermore, the program should be applied to modify the behavior of other chronic disease risk groups in which treatment outcomes can be monitored within 8 weeks
