Abstract

This quasi-experimental research studied the effect of a positive mental health promotion program on the mental health self-care behavior of older adults. The sample comprised 60 geriatric residents, randomly assigned to experimental and control groups, with 30 participants in each. The experimental group received a positive mental health promotion program, including eight weekly sessions, while the control group received regular care. dependent t-test
A compared the mean mental health self-care behavior scores pre- and post-experimentally, and an independent t-test compared the mean difference in mental health self-care behavior for the experimental and control groups.
Results were that the experimental group samples had a higher mean score of self-care behavior. Post-experimental mental health (M=204.66, SD.=11.16) was significantly higher than pre-experimental health (M=177.63, SD.=18.90). The difference in mean scores of self-care behaviors in mental health between pre- and post-experimental samples (equation1=27.03, SD.=13.07) was significantly higher than the control group (equation2=2.13, SD.=14.06)at a statistically significant level (t=4.64, p <.001).These findings suggest that a positive mental health promotion program may increase self-care behavior among geriatric patients if used by health management personnel to promote mental health.
