Keywords:
health literacy, health care behaviors, novice monksAbstract
This quasi-experimental research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a health literacy enhancement program based on the National Health Charter principles among novice monks in Buddhist parochial schools. The study focused on the program’s impact on the participants’ health literacy and health care behaviors. The sample was selected through multistage random sampling, comprising novice monks studying in grades 7 to 12, aged between 13 and 18 years. They were divided into experimental and control groups, with 70 participants in each group. Research instruments included the health literacy enhancement program designed to promote behavioral change based on the National Health Charter principles, a health literacy questionnaire, and a health behavior questionnaire tailored to the principles of the National Health Charter. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and independent t-test. The results indicated that the average scores of health literacy and health care behaviors in the experimental group significantly improved after the intervention at the 0.05 significance level. Additionally, the post-test average scores of health literacy and health care behaviors in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group at the 0.05 significance level.
