This predictive correlational research paper’s objective is to study the factors predicting health literacy among elderly people with diabetes in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The sample consisted of 259 participants selected through a multi-stage cluster sampling. The reliability of the instruments was tested using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, with the health literacy questionnaire for elderly people with diabetes scoring .959, and the social support questionnaire scoring .920. Data was analyzed using Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, Point-biserial correlation coefficient, and Multiple regression analysis.
The study found that the overall health literacy of elderly people with diabetes was at a moderate level (Mean = 97.87, S.D. = 12.66). The only factor which predicted the health literacy among elderly people with diabetes was social support, accounting for 27.1% (adjusted R² = .271, p < .001). Therefore, healthcare personnel can use this information as a basis for organizing nursing activities and developing programs to promote health literacy among elderly people with diabetes.
