Role of Nurse Coordinator in Managing Critical Care Patient Beds at Somdej Phra Debarat Building, Ramathibodi Hospital

Critical illness refers to severe conditions that require intensive care. The demand for ICU care is increasing globally, while ICU bed availability is limited, creating challenges, especially for tertiary hospitals that receive referrals of critically ill patients from across the country. In this context, the role of nurse coordinators in managing ICU beds effectively becomes critical. The nurse coordinator’s role can be applied at every stage of ICU care: Pre-admission: The nurse coordinator assesses the severity of the patient’s condition and prioritizes ICU admission, ensuring optimal resource allocation. During ICU admission: The coordinator monitors the patient’s condition, ensuring interdisciplinary team collaboration for comprehensive care. Postadmission: The coordinator continues to oversee the patient’s care, adjusting treatment plans as needed and ensuring the patient receives continuous monitoring and appropriate interventions. The role of providing information, consultation, and clinical coordination to patients and their families aims to ensure that patients can access appropriate care quickly in the ICU. Their goal is to ensure that patients access services and receive appropriate care in the ICU promptly, ensuring safety, reducing the severity of illness, and lowering the mortality rate outside the ICU and ensure continuous care for both patients and their families.
