Abstract

Health literacy is crucial for promoting good health among personnel, with public health workers playing a vital role in advocating and supporting health literacy within organizations. This study employed a descriptive cross-sectional design to explore health literacy regarding disease prevention and control among public health personnel in 14 units primarily responsible for the health care of the Air Force personnel, including Preventive Medicine, Aerospace Medicine Institute, Air Force hospitals, and health promotion units in large hospitals. Data were collected using a health literacy questionnaire on disease prevention for public health personnel, which underwent content validity verification by three experts, comprising 20 questions across five skills. It was distributed to all public health personnel in the specified units, receiving 235 responses, which equals a 60.41% response rate. The findings revealed that the average health literacy score among the participants was 74.46%, indicating a problematic level. The skill with the lowest score was application, with an average score of 68.80%, also at a problematic level. Factors significantly affecting health literacy scores included being aged 19-30 years, having a higher education level, engaging in regular exercise, and being a pharmacist.
