The Effectiveness of Health Literacy Development Program in Preventive Teenagers MahaSarakham

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to study the effects of health literacy development program on health literacy and pregnancy preventive behaviors in teenagers, MahaSarakham Province. The sample were 60 female students who were studying at grade mattayom 2 in the 2023 academic year at Yang Si Surat secondary school, Maha Sarakham province, selected by simple random sampling. They were divided into the experimental (30) and the comparative (30) groups. The research instruments included: 1) a health literacy development program, which was developed based on concept of Nutbeam. The duration of the program was 6 weeks. The activities comprised: (1) developing knowledge (2) developing access and media literacy skills (3) developing communication skills (4) developing self-management skills (5) developing decision-making skills and 2) health knowledge and pregnancy prevention behaviors questionnaires. The reliability were .80 and .85, respectively. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test. The result revealed as follows. After attending the program, health literacy and pregnancy preventive behaviors of the experimental group were significantly higher than before attending the program, as well as these results were higher than the comparative group.
