A Study of the Desired Characteristics of Nursing Students at the Srisavarindhira Thai Red Cross Institute of Nursing in the 2020 Academic Year

Abstract

The purpose of this descriptive research was to study desirable characteristics of nursing student at Srisavarindhira Thai Red Cross Institute of Nursing in the 2020 academic years. The samples of this research were 686 of first to fourth year nursing students. The research instruments included a questionnaire on the desired characteristics of nursing students at the Srisavarindhira Thai Red Cross Institute of Nursing for first to fourth year nursing students. The reliabilities were 0.96, 0.97, 0.98, and 0.98, respectively. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.
The results illustrated that the mean score of the desirable characteristics of the four year nursing students were at a high level (x̅ = 4.19, 3.99, 4.00, 4.02; SD = 0.69, 0.79, 0.59, 0.51, respectively). When considering each aspect, it was found that the service-minded aspect of the first and second year students had the highest mean score. The integrity of heart aspect of the third, and fourth year students had the highest mean score, while the talent development aspect of the first, second, and third year students had the lowest mean score. The service minded aspect of the fourth year students had the lowest mean score. Results from this study can be used to improve instructional and extracurricular activities to enhance the desirable characteristics of nursing students.
