Correlation between Health Literacy and Smoking Behavior among Students in Higher Education Institute, Bangkok metropolis

This research was descriptive correlational research. The study aimed to explore the level of health literacy and correlation between health literacy and smoking behavior among students in higher education institute, Bangkok metropolis. The sample consisted of 400 students selected by simple random sampling. A questionnaire was used to collect data on respondent demographics and health literacy and smoking behavior. Content Validity Index (CVI) of questionnaires were 0.93, 0.80 respectively. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were 0.86, 0.74 respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistic and Spearman’s correlation coefficient.
The results revealed that the most of sample had a good level of health literacy (M = 92.89, SD. 18.06) and health literacy was negatively related to smoking behavior among students in higher education institute, Bangkok metropolis with a statistical significance level of .05 with a correlation coefficient (r) of -.335. The study finding could be utilized to guidance for develop health literacy program among students in higher education institute to smoking cessation
