Abstract

This study purposed to examine the health literacy and overweight’s behaviors, the correlation between the health literacy and overweight’s behaviors, and the comparisons between the health literacy and overweight’s behaviors among the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades of the elementary school students We totally collected 448 elementary school students with body weight index (BMI) between +2.5 and +3.0 of standard deviation in inner Bangkok metropolis using the multistage randomized sampling. Instruments were the health literature questionnaire with 6 dimensions and health behaviors questionnaires with 4 dimensions. Content validity of these questionnaires was .98. We analyzed data using the descriptive statistical test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and One way analysis of variance.

We found that the health literacy and overweight’s behavior scores were moderate. The health literacy low correlated with the overweight’s behaviors. Interestingly, the health literacy of the elementary school students was significantly different among grades (p<.01). However, the overweight’s behaviors among the grades of the elementary school students was not significant difference.
