Abstract

The purposes of this research were to create and develop assisted model for suction skill practice, study its efficiency, and compare the satisfaction among nursing students towards uses between this assisted model and the college’s suctioning manikins. The population of this research was 108 second-year students of Bachelor of Nursing Science, Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Ratchaburi, who used this assisted model. The research instruments used for data collection consisted of two sets:1) the assisted model performance evaluation form, and 2) the nursing students’ satisfaction assessment form towards the assisted model uses. The data were then analyzed for finding mean, standard deviation, and t-test.

The study results were as follows: 1) To get the assisted model for suction skill practice which featured that when the suction tube was inserted into the trachea tube up to the optimum suction position, there were a flashing green warning light. When the suction was pressed, there were a warning sound after 10 seconds was reached. When the suction tube passed down to the carina, there were warning signs such as a flashing red light and a sound said that “carina” 2) The total mean score on opinions towards the efficiency of the assisted model for suction skill practice was at the high level (M = 4.38, SD = .39). 3) The total mean score on satisfaction among the nursing students towards this use of assisted model was statistically significantly higher than that of the college manikins. (t = 3.25, p <0.01).
