Early Childhood Rearing in Skipped-Generation Families among Caregiver in Chaiyaphum Province: Mixed Method Research

Abstract

This mixed method research aimed to study the situation and early childhood rearing in the skipped-generation families of caregivers in Chaiyaphum Province. The research was divided into 2 phases. First phase: to study the situation and early childhood rearing in the skipped-generation families of caregivers as the qualitative method used semi-structured and in-depth interviews. The results revealed that: 1) caregiver found child-rearing troubles in 4 issues: (1) expenses (2) health problems (3) quality of time and (4) prevention of infectious diseases, 2) misunderstanding of caregivers about early childhood rearing in (1) knowledge, (2) skill and (3) attitude. Second phase: to study the factors related to child-rearing competence of caregivers as the quantitative method. The results revealed that caregiver’s sex and age related to child-rearing competence of caregivers in knowledge to the statistically significant at the 0.05 level. Caregiver’s Graduation, Monthly Income and health condition related to child-rearing competence of caregivers in knowledge, skill and attitude to the statistically significant at the 0.05 level. The recommendations of the study are recognized the problem of child-rearing competence of caregivers in the skipped-generation families in order to enhancement the early childhood rearing competency for caregivers in New Normal.
