Abstract

ความปลอดภัยของผู้ป่วยในโรงพยาบาล เป็นสิ่งที่พึงปรารถนาสำหรับผู้ป่วย ญาติ และบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ทุกฝ่ายและเป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญที่แสดงให้เห็นถึงการพัฒนาคุณภาพบริการพยาบาลที่ได้มาตรฐานและมีการพัฒนาอย่างต่อเนื่อง ซึ่งในอดีตมักไม่ค่อยมีใครฟ้องร้องผู้ประกอบวิชาชีพในการช่วยเหลือชีวิตเพื่อนมนุษย์ แต่ในปัจจุบัน เนื่องจากกระแสสังคมในยุคโลกาภิวัตน์ ผนวกกับความเจริญก้าวหน้าทางวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี ทำให้คณะบุคคลส่วนหนึ่งมองเห็นโอกาสในการนำเรื่องการรักษาพยาบาลไปประกอบธุรกิจที่มุ่งแสวงหาผลกำไร เป็นเหตุให้ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผู้ประกอบวิชาชีพและผู้ป่วยเปลี่ยนแปลงไป ประกอบ กับประเด็นด้านสิทธิและการคุ้มครองผู้บริโภคได้พัฒนาไปอย่างก้าวกระโดด ดังนั้นหากผู้ป่วยต้องพบกับความผิดหวังหรือได้รับอันตรายจากการประกอบอาชีพ จึงเกิดกรณีการร้องเรียนฟ้องร้องเพิ่มขึ้น เช่น กรณีความผิดพลาดการให้เลือดผิด การปล่อยปละละเลยทอดทิ้งผู้ป่วย เป็นต้น ดังนั้นความปลอดภัยของผู้ป่วยจึงเป็นสิ่งที่พยาบาลและผู้ประกอบวิชาชีพทางด้านสุขภาพทุกคนต้องตระหนักและให้ความสำคัญตลอดระยะเวลาที่รับผู้ป่วยไว้ในความดูแล

Patient safety is very important to patients and their families and to all staff members. This awareness is a measure of the success of on- going development of standards in nursing services. In the past, law suits were rarely brought against health care professionals. Nowadays, however, things have changed. As the world is being rapidly transformed, the tremendous exchange of information, values and technology has had great impact throughout the health care profession. It has become a highly competitive business, which profoundly affects relations between hospital care-givers and patients. Concerns for the legal rights of patients as consumers now come into the foreground, reflcting this shift. Today it has become fairly common for disappointed or mistreated patients to bring law suits against hospital staff members with claims, for example, that a wrong blood type was administered in a transfusion, or that the patient suffered some serious neglect while under professional care. As a result, hospitals now function with a heightened awareness of these issues of care assessment, patient safety, and the legal responsibilities of professional care-givers. More than ever, therefore, safety becomes a paramount concern as long as a patient is in the care of the facility.
