Abstract

This research design aim to examine the relationships between nurses’ work characteristics, work environment, work engagement and quality of care in university hospitals. The samples were 427 professional nurses, randomly selected by multi-stage sampling technique. The research instruments were personal factors, work characteristics, work environment, work engagement, and quality of care as perceived by professional nurses questionnaires. Content validity was established by a panel of experts. The Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficients were 93, .95, .94, and .97, respectively. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient. The major findings were as follows:
