Effects of Using an Interaction Model with Foreign Patients at Outpatient Departments in a Private Hospital

This quasi-experimental research aimed at :1) to compare the foreigner patient satisfaction of nursing services before and after using an interaction model with foreign patients at an outpatient department of a private hospital, 2) and to compare the value of the interaction model as perceived by professional nurses before and after adopting the model. The samples comprised 2 groups: 1) foreigner patients were divided into two groups, a pretest group and a posttest one, each contained 51 patients, and 2) 15 registered nurses of the outpatient unit. The research tools included: 1) the developed interaction model with foreigner patients at the outpatient unit, 2) a foreign patient satisfaction of nursing service questionnaire, and 3) a questionnaire of nurses’ perception of the value of the interaction model with foreign patients. The reliabilities of the first and the second one were 0.98 and 0.97 respectively. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U test, and t-test.
The results revealed as follows. 1) The foreigner patient satisfaction of nursing services in technical professional dimension was significantly higher than before using the model at the level .05. 2) The value of the model as perceived by the nurses after adopting the model was significantly higher than the prior model at the level .001
