Risk Factors and Prevention of Stroke in Hypertensive Patients

Abstract

Risk factors of stroke in hypertensive patients divided into 2 parts were 1) personal factors were male, increasing ages, diabetes mellitus, obesity, hyperdyslipidemia, atrial fibrillation, family history with stroke, duration of hypertension illness, and high blood pressure. 2) health behavior factors were no adherence to anti-hypertensive medication, no exercise, inappropriate consuming, alcohol consumption and smoking. If no behavior change or inappropriate treatment will leading to main organ complications especially brain causes ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. Patient with stroke will confront with remain disability which is effect to patient minds and burden caregiving to the family and also high cost patient care. So, the stroke prevention in hypertensive patients by advice the adherence to anti-hypertensive medication, appropriate consuming, regular exercise, no alcohol consumption and tobacco cessation are important to prevent stroke in the future.
