Keywords:
diabetic patients, belief associated with behaviors, medication use behaviorsAbstract
The Objective of this research was to study the personal factors, belief associated with behaviors, and medication use behaviors, and to study prediction power of medication behaviors of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. The Sample was 70 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients receiving services in diabetic clinic, Phramongkutklao hospital, during August-September 2016. Tools contained questionnaires of the personal factors, belief associated with behaviors, and medication use behaviors of type 2 diabetic patients with their reliabilities of 0.80, and 0.73 respectively. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation coefficients and multiple regression with the Enter method. The result showed that type 2 diabetic patients at Phramongkutklao hospital mostly female (51.40%), age between 60-79 years (64.30%), marital status and spouse (82.90%), education level at Matthayom 6/vocational certificate (32.90%), monthly income more than 20,000 baht (40%) and duration of diabetes over 10 years (47.20%). Most type 2 diabetics have belief associated with behaviors and medication use behaviors at very appropriate level. (84.30% and 92.90%, respectively). The belief associated with behaviors could predict their medication use behaviors at 35.1%, statistically significant (R2 = .351, p<.05) and their personal factors could not predict their medication use behaviors. The belief associated with behaviors could predict medication use behaviors of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Therefore, nurses should plan to care the patients by encouraging their behaviors in complying with good medication compliance confirming with their individual belief associated with behaviors.
