Abstract

This study used quasi-experimental research design, the one group pretest-posttest to examine the effect of symptom management program on fatigue symptom and functional performance in chronic kidney disease patients who had no renal replacement therapy. The total subjects were 30 chronic kidney disease patients none renal replacement therapy who admitted at medicine department group II in Sanpasitthiprasong Hospital Ubonratchathani. The instruments consisted of symptom management program, self-care handbook
VCD of massage. Data collection included of the personal data record form, the memorial symptom assessment scale, the functional performance inventory of chronic kidney disease (Thai version) and test of knowledge. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and pair t-test. The result was found (1) Mean scores of fatigue at the moderate level (M = 6.66, SD = 1.68). (2) Mean scores of functional performance at the moderate level (M = 2.91, SD = .97). (3) The mean of fatigue score symptoms after receiving the symptom management program were significantly lower than before receiving program at the level of .01. and (4) The mean of functional performance were significantly higher than mean scores before receiving program at the level of .01. The results of this study should be used as guidance for fatigue management in patients with chronic kidney disease who had no renal replacement therapy and used relaxant massage for fatigue management in chronic disease patients for relived fatigue and higher functional performance.
