Abstract

The first time father or the man who just has the first child is the important client that midwife does not miss to give nursing care because he is the key person for taking care of his wife and child. Studies about the first time fathers show that them have to pass the process of transition to fatherhood since knowing his wife get pregnancy throughout postpartum period. They have to face with many physiological and psychologicalchanges such as nausea vomiting, stomachache, insomnia, excited, confused, stressed or depressed. These changes also effect on their behavior. All behavior changes make them, their wife and child satisfy their needs, for example; finding the knowledge of maternal and baby care, helping their wife to take care of their child, balancing their work to fulfill family mission. If social support is added, the adjustment on their role of the first time father would rapidly. Therefore, midwife should concern the first time fathers and give them about information of their wife and baby’s health, help their to evaluate stress and adjust emotion and encourage & empower them to take care of their wife and child in order to promote healthy of the whole family.
