The Effectiveness of Self-Directed Learning for Clinical Reasoning Development: A Case Study of Primary Health Care Practicum Course to Primary Health Care Practice Competency in Nursing Students

This study aimed to study the self-directed learning for clinical reasoning development: a case study of primary health care practicum course to primary health care practice competency in nursing students. Purposive sampling was used to recruit the sample. The were 154 of 4nd year nursing students who participated in primary health care practicum course. The instruments included primary health care practice competency in nursing students of study questionnaire with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient .87 Descriptive statistic (percentage, mean, and standard deviation) was used to analyze the data. The finding revealed that average scores of primary health care practice competency were high in nursing students. The results revealed that primary health care practice competency before and after participated in teaching-learning arrangement in primary health care practicum course was significantly different at .05 level. The self-directed learning for clinical reasoning development: a case study of primary health care practicum course to primary health care practice competency in nursing students should be applied for using in further teaching and learning courses.
