Quality of Life, Depression and Suicidality in Cholangiocarcinoma Patients Treated at Srinagarind Hospital

Objective:To study the quality of life, depression and suicidality in among patients with cholangiocarcinoma at Srinagarind Hospital
Method:Between August, 2013 and July, 2014, 125 cholangiocarcinoma patients from the OPD Surgery Unit, Srinagarind Hospital. were evaluated by questionnaire for (a) general information, (b) functional assessment of cancer therapy-hepatobiliary (FACT-Hep) version 4, (c) the KKU-DI depression screening test for Thai patients and (d) Mini international neuropsychiatric interview (M.I.N.I.). Data analysis used descriptive statistics.
Results:Fifty fi ve percent of the patients had a high quality of life. The respective score for the physical, social and family and psychological well-being domain was 47.2%, 60%, and
48.8%. The activity domain a was relativity a most (59%) and moderate (49.6%). of the patients had depression severe (4.0%), moderate (5.6%), and mild (49.6%). The suicide ailty was 8.8% which is considered mild.
Conclusion:More than half of the patients with cholangiocarcinoma have a high quality of life and depression but low suicidality. Therefore, patients with cholangiocarcinoma should be assessed early psychosocial intervention for depression
