Attitudes toward Mental Illness of Psychiatric Patients, Relatives of Psychiatric Patients and Homeowaners from A Homestay Family Camp

Objective :

To compare the attitudes of psychiatric patients, relatives of psychiatric patients and homeowners toward mental illness before and after participating in the homestay family camp.

Materials and Methods :

A homestay family camp was organized in the community for 3 days and 2 nights. We assessed the attitudes toward mental illness of 32 psychiatric patients,16 relatives of psychiatric patients and 14 homeowners before and after participating in the project. We used statistics Wilcoxon matched paired sign rank test to compare their scores before and after.

Results

: The attitude scores of psychiatric patients, relatives of psychiatric patients and homeowners toward mental illness before and after participating in a homestay family camp are not significant (p-value = 0.85, 0.06 and 0.09, respectively)

Conclusion :

The attitude scores of psychiatric patients, relatives of psychiatric patients and homeowners toward mental illness before and after participating in the project did not change significantly.
